Finals break a timely one for banged-up Tropang Giga

CHOT Reyes welcomes the extra days TNT will have before going to the ultimate battle that is the PBA Philippine Cup finals.

Given the physicality and intense of the Tropang Giga's semifinals series against the Magnolia Hotshots, Reyes said the break prior to the best-of-seven title series is definitely a big relief to his weary team.

"It's very big for us. As you can see, we've got a lot of players who are banged-up. So that extra break would really come in handy," said the TNT mentor.

The defending champions booked a third straight stint in the all-Filipino finals after wrapping up their best-of-seven semis series against the Hotshots, 4-2, following their 87-74 win in Game 6 on Sunday night.

The Tropang Giga will now have the luxury of resting for a few days as they await the winner of the sudden-death between top seed San Miguel and Meralco scheduled on Wednesday.

The Bolts came through with an amazing 16-2 endgame run to complete a dramatic 96-92 victory over the Beermen and tie their own semis series at 3-3, paving the way for the do-or-die encounter.

Along with the needed break, Reyes said TNT will use the opportunity to prepare physically and mentally on what he expects to be another tough series with a higher stakes on the line.

"(That's) not only to rest but also to prepare," said the champion coach, who turned 59 earlier this month.

"I haven't really taken a look at the other series. I caught glimpses, here and there, but now at least, we can take a look." (RG)
